WPT Season 9 Kicks Off In France

PartyPoker also looks to grow outside of Europe, where it continues to maintain a stronghold on the poker industry. Starting in Canada, where poker is still in a growth period, PartyPoker hopes to see Scott at the tables of various live poker events. After Season 8 of the World Poker Tour (WPT) concluded with David Williams capturing the $25,000 buy-in championship at Bellagio, Season 9 of the popular poker tour is set to get underway in Paris, France on May 8th.

So far the poker tournament series has announced four stops for their 2010-2011 schedule. All four stops are scheduled in Europe with the usual break in the action surrounding the World Series of Poker which will take place from late May to early July:

* WPT Spanish Championship: May 19 – 23, 2010
Casino Barcelona: Barcelona, Spain

* WPT London Poker Classic: Aug 29 – Sep 5, 2010

* WPT Amneville: Oct 30 – Nov 1, 2010
Casino Municipal D Amneville: Amneville, France


Stay tuned to Best Poker Players, as the full schedule of World Poker Tour Season 9 events should be released in the coming weeks, including dozens of stops at the biggest casinos and card-rooms around the globe, culminating in the $25,000 World Poker Tour Championship that will once again take place at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In addition, the company remains poised to make a reentry into the United States market should pro-gaming legislation pass Congress in 2010 or 2011. After having made peace with the U.S. government in 2009 by paying a sizable fine for offering online poker in America in past years, PartyPoker has cleared its name with the Department of Justice and likely plans to provide its services to American players should the door be opened.




It will not be surprising to see more moves from PartyPoker that indicate its willingness and enthusiasm for gaining a wider range of customers around the world, especially once again in the United States. 

The winner of WPT will receive a WPT bracelet and a $25,o00 seat in the WPT Championship at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. The 2010 WPT Championship is currently being contested and will run through April 24th. After Day 3, 35 of 195 players remain at four tables. Shawn “Buck21″ Buchanan, champion of the WPT Mandalay Bay Poker Championship in 2007, is the current chip leader with 1,841,000 chips. His closest competitors are Heather Sue Mercer (1,364,000), Robert Cooper (937,000), Matt “All In At 420″ Stout (919,500), and Billy Baxter (887,500).

Other notables still alive include Faraz “The-Toilet” Jaka, Phil Hellmuth, David Williams, David Benyamine, Jason Lester, Carlos Mortensen, Scotty Nguyen, J.J. Liu, Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy, Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin, reigning WPT Championship winner Yevgeniy “Jovial Gent” Timoshenko, David “Devilfish” Ulliott, and Josh Arieh. Play will resume at Noon Pacific Time as players battle it out for the $1,530,537 first prize.
